A Typical Day

While each day is a unique and exciting adventure there are some familiar experiences that the children encounter everyday. Children at Flying High Nursery enjoy a balanced routine of free choice and structured activities, which are specifically designed to support their physical, personal, social, emotional and educational development.

All sessions are planned thoughtfully by staff with the individual needs and interests of the children in mind and according to the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

 

Below is an example of a typical day at Flying High.

From 7.30am - Optional breakfast club

8.45am - Welcome to our morning children

Start the Day Whole Class Activity

9.15am - Focused curriculum teaching input.

Communication, Language and Literacy

Mathematics; Shape Space and Measures or Number

 

9.30am – Free flow continuous provision (indoor and outdoor)

 

Flexible snack where children have access to milk, water and a range of healthy snacks.

 

10.30am -  Focused curriculum teaching input.

Communication, Language and Literacy

Mathematics; shape space and measures or number

 

11am - Free flow continuous provision (indoor and outdoor)

 

11.30am – Story time/ Sing-along

11.45  Session ends for funded places

 

11.45-12.30 - Lunch 

 

12.30 pm - Welcome to our afternoon children

Start the afternoon focused activity

 

12.45 pm - Focused curriculum teaching input.

1.15pm - Free flow continuous provision (indoor and outdoor)

3.15 pm - Story time/ Sing-along

 

3.30pm – Afternoon session ends for funded places

 

3.30 pm onwards - Optional After school club sessions including snacks and afternoon tea for children staying later than 4.30 pm.

6.00 pm  Latest collection time for children

HEALTHY FOOD

Nutritious and fun

We have a fantastic kitchen area to cook up meals and snacks for your children to enjoy and we have a 5 star hygiene rating. 

The kitchen also includes a self serve hatch to help your child to develop healthy eating and meal time habits. 

We can provide children with a hot meal (main course, pudding, bread and a drink) if they're they are with us over lunchtime (11.45 am - 12.15) at a cost of £2.00 per day or you can send a healthy packed lunch.  All meals meet all school meals nutritional standards.

All our food is Halal with vegetarian options.   You can download a copy of our hot lunch menu here, which has a great range of nutritious meals for your child to enjoy.  Example lunches include fishcakes, cottage pie, chilli con carne, minced beef bolognese and for vegetarians red lentil and pepper bake, vegetables sweet and sour, three bean chilli.  For desert we have tasty treats like banana and custard, blueberry muffins, jelly and ice cream.  The menu runs on a 3 week rotation, so your child will never get bored!  If your child has any allergies please let us know.

The baby room will have a range of suitable fruits, baby biscotti, baby cheese puffs or parents are welcome to send their own choice of snacks.

We've been awarded a 5 by the Food Standards Agency for our food hygiene in our

on-site kitchen.
